She ate, to keep him away.

She ate to keep him away. He measured every inch. She huddled in the corner and ate.

She boozed slowly, like there was time, like time didn’t exist. Never drunk. (Except that once.)

She never lost the weight. She divided her food into even pieces, like she could wait: chattered about happiness, every forkful a lie.
